High Street
Workington,
CA14 4ES
Workington is a town on the west coast of Cumbria that is pretty far away. It is about 50 km southwest of Carlisle, which is the county town. The A66 leads from the east to it, and the A596 leads from the north to it. You can find the venue on High Street (A596), which is just south of Workington.
There is parking on-site, but there is no promise that you will be able to find a spot on the day of your choice. Instead, you can park for free at 86 Peter Street Car Park, which is about 650 m west of the test centre. From here, take Harrington Road east and then turn right at the roundabout to get to the test site. Head south on Cross Hill, then turn right onto High Street and keep going until you reach the venue.
There are more local parking choices that can be found on this Parkopedia page.
Around town, there aren’t many bus lines, but you can get to one that works from Workington Bus Station. From the station, take the number 52 (Harrington) bus to the stop outside the Royal George Pub. From there, it’s only a one-minute walk to the test centre. You can walk to High Street if this linking service isn’t running at the right time. The trip takes about a kilometre and includes a walk through the middle of Workington going east before turning south on King Street. Get on the A596 at the end of the road and head south to the testing site.
The western edge of town is home to Workington Train Station, which is about 1.5 km from the test site target and serves many places in northwest England. Please keep in mind that even if you choose to take the bus to the test place, you will still have to walk about 650 metres. There is a bus stop on Hawkshead Avenue, just south of High Street. The number 51 (Westfield) service will take you there from the train station. Take Hawkshead Avenue and Newlands Lane to get to the A596, then turn north to get to the testing site.
From the station, walk east on Oxford Street and Jane Street to get to High Street. Then, turn right onto King Street and head south. Keep going south on the A596, and after about 100 metres, you’ll see the venue on your left.
Please be aware that the time difference between taking the bus and going directly to the test site is very small because of the bus route and the distance you have to walk.
Visit the Northern Rail website for real-time information on departure and arrival times, station services, and how to get to the stations.
The Life in the UK Test Helpline can be reached at 0800 015 4245, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm, if you need help with your booking.
