The UK Ancestry Visa is a potential entry route for descendants of UK nationals. It is available to Commonwealth citizens with one grandparent born in the UK, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, or Ireland before 31 March 1922.
The visa enables successful applicants the right to reside, work, and pursue academic studies in the United Kingdom for an initial duration of 5 years. Eligible individuals can prolong their visa for another 5 years or seek Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) upon meeting the stipulated criteria.
Children adopted or born outside of marriage may still qualify under the UK Ancestry Visa, provided they can prove their relationship to the UK-born grandparent through legal adoption documents or birth certificates.
After 5 years on the Ancestry Visa, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) to secure permanent residency. To apply, you must show 5 years of residence, meet financial and English requirements, and have no immigration law breaches. Eligibility includes continuous stay in the UK, proof of work or self-support, English language ability, and passing the Life in the UK Test.
ILR gives you permanent residency in the UK. You must prove continuous stay, financial stability, and meet English language requirements.
You apply online, providing proof of 5 years’ residence, income or employment, and required Home Office documents.
To qualify, you must show continuous UK residence, no long absences, proof of work or funds, English language skills, and pass the Life in the UK Test.
Holders of an Ancestry Visa may switch to other visa categories if eligible, such as Skilled Worker Visa or Family Visa, depending on their circumstances and future plans.

Hear From Our Customers!
I have been trying to immigrate to the uk for about 2 years now to live with my husband. And the way the system is designed is meant to confuse the everyday person. We tried to do it ourself first and eventually consulted a lawyer that really helped us figure out where we went wrong. Were in our early 20s and it all was so overwhelming. We also had very little money. My husband being disabled and me being not allowed to work while I immigrated. It was fixed rate from sabz that took our circumstances into account. Anisa was so lovely while she helped us out. And eventually she had to go on maturity leave since the home office dragged out our case for so long. But that didn't mean we were given any less quality of service. She transferred the handling of our case to the head of their immigration department. Shabnam saw us through this nightmare. She was confident in our strong case. I hope my review can assure anyone that is making the decision to immigrate or consult a lawyer. Even younger poor disabled folks like us were helped, which still boggles my mind. GET A LAWYER, save yourself a 2+ year nightmare.
Our solicitor Raiyana Patel, did an absolutely amazing job. She is professional, kind and knowledgeable.
Me and my wife can’t thank her enough for changing our lives and we will forever be thankful to her! Throughout the process she has always responded quickly and clearly putting any worry we had to rest, she was always there to help whenever we needed her, we knew we were in great hands and that eased our minds throughout this process. We couldn’t have asked for a better solicitor.
We appreciate her and all her hard work and support for us to no end and we couldn’t recommend her or Sabz solicitors enough.
Our case worker we were assigned was Miss anisa ejaz. Anisa was extremely professional from start to finish, answering every question I had, putting my mind at ease with a few doubts that I had.
Anisa worked very quickly on my wife's visa and from the date of submitting the visa to my wife's Visa being granted was just over 4 weeks. We cannot thank Anisa enough for her help in our immigration matter. I would very highly recommend Anisa Ejaz for any immigration matter anyone has.
Many thanks Anisa
