Applicants for a Business Visitor Visa are not required to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS). This is because the visa is for a short-term stay, typically under six months. However, if you require any NHS treatment during your visit, you will be charged for it at the point of use.
When applying for a Spouse visa, you must pay the Immigration Health Surcharge to cover your healthcare costs while in the UK. Since February 2024, the surcharge has been £1,035 per year, following a 86% increase. For in-country application, it will be for 30 months and out-country application, it will be for 33 months.

Most visa nationals must apply for a Standard Visitor visa before travelling to the UK for business purposes. These people are called “visa nationals” under the Immigration Rules.
Nationals of countries not listed as visa nationals do not usually need to apply for a visa before travelling, but must still meet the Standard Visitor requirements. However, as a result of the new entry system, the majority of non-visa nationals are still required to obtain an ETA and still need to request entry clearance at a port of entry in the UK.
Furthermore, over the next few months, UK travel restrictions will change, and non-visa nationals will soon be required to get an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling.
ETA or Visitor Visa?
It is important to consider your nationality, travel plans, and intended activities while deciding whether a Visitor Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is necessary to enter the UK.
Beginning in 2024, citizens of visa-exempt nations, such as the US, Canada, and Australia, will be able to use the ETA. An ETA allows eligible travellers to travel to the UK, but entry is still subject to Border Force approval.

While the UK business visitor visa rules appear to be extensive, they limit the business duties you can undertake during your short-term stay in the UK. With a business visitor visa, you are not allowed to do such things:

- Long-term living or working in the UK is not permitted.
