What is a Business Visit Visa for UK?

An individual who wishes to come to the UK for business purposes on a temporary, unpaid basis needs a Business Visit Visa.

Business Visit Visas are for those who wish to conduct a permitted business activity in the UK for a temporary period of up to six months. This is a subcategory of the standard Visitor route.

All visitors must apply separately, even if they are travelling in a group. This visa type is short-term and can be granted for up to 6 months. It will not provide any other rights of residence or allow you to become settled in the UK.

Immigration routes and rules are constantly changing in line with UK government guidelines. UK Immigration Solicitors strive to ensure that they are always well-informed about any changes and how they may affect you and your next steps.

What Can You Do on a Business Visit Visa UK?

As long as you have a UK business visit visa and are only staying for a short time, you can do the following:

  • Going to interviews, talks, conferences, or seminars
  • Providing a single or limited number of presentations, so long as they are not run for profit by an organization.
  • Dealing with and signing contracts and deals
  • Going to trade shows for promotional purposes only, as long as they don’t involve direct sales
  • Making site trips and inspections
  • Collecting information for jobs overseas
  • Being told what a UK-based customer wants, as long as any work done for that customer is done outside of the UK

As a worker for a company based overseas, you can also do the following business-related or within-business activities:

  • giving advice, consulting, fixing problems, or teaching
  • When working on an internal project with UK workers of the same company, sharing skills and information is allowed as long as no direct client work is done.
  • Interning as an auditor at a UK branch of the same company group as the foreign employer and doing checks on rules or finances
  • Some sector-specific actions are also allowed with a standard visitor visa. For example, you can get money to start, take over, join, or run a business in the UK, but you can’t actually set up or run a business.

What You Can’t Do on a Business Visit Visa UK?

If you have a standard visitor visa (not a business visitor visa), you won’t be able to do some business-related things in the UK. The UK business guest visa rules may seem broad, but they limit the business tasks you can carry out while you are in the UK on a short-term basis. If you have a business guest visa, you can’t do the following:

  • Running a business or doing volunteer work while you’re there.
  • For a long time, lived or worked in the UK.
  • Receiving any public funds.
  • You won’t be able to get business loans or bursaries, even if you want to run, take over, or join a UK business in the future. You’ll have to show proof that you have enough money to pay for your stay.

What if my Business Visitor Visa doesn't allow my business?

International visitors from outside the EEA can get different types of work and business visas. It’s important to know if the visa application you’re sending in will let you do the business activities you’re coming to the UK to do.

You may have to apply for a visa different from the UK Business Visitor Visa if you want to do paid business activities besides going to meetings, workshops, and other legal business activities.

The Tier 1 Entrepreneur Visa lets you start and run a business, while the Skilled Worker Visa lets you come to the UK to do paid work.

Since the business visa UK is the same as the regular tourist visa UK, it has many of the same restrictions. UK immigration rules are strict, and you need to be very clear when you fill out your visa application.

If you don’t show enough proof that you are allowed to and want to go to the UK, the Home Office could turn down your application, or immigration officials could turn you away when you get there.

People from the US, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, Australia, and other non-EEA areas can come to the UK on a variety of work and business visas. It is important to know which visa application is right for you.

Figuring out which visas let you do what work tasks in the UK can be frustrating. You can get help from us if you need it.

Who is Eligible for a Business Visit Visa for UK?

You must meet the following UK business visa conditions in order to get a standard visitor visa:

  • When your trip is over, you’ll leave the UK.
  • You have enough money to live on and take care of yourself without using public funds.
  • You can pay for your trip back or forward.
  • According to the rules, you have proof of any business actions you want to do in the UK.

These conditions make it clear that you are really trying to get in for a reason that is allowed by the visitor route and that you will not do anything that is not allowed. Please keep in mind that you should apply for an authorized paid engagement visa instead if a UK company is paying you to come there as an expert in your field.

With this type of visa, you can do a lot of different paid jobs, such as serving on a selection group as a highly qualified academic or giving lectures at a college, arts organization, or research center.

To get an approved paid engagement visa, you need to meet the following business visitor visa UK requirements:

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You will only be in the UK for one month.
  • Moreover, you are leaving the UK at the end of your visit.
  • You have enough money to take care of yourself and stay in a hotel.
  • Also, you can pay for your return or next trip.
  • You are not on your way to a place other than the UK.

Which Documents are Required for a Business Visitor Visa UK?

In order to get a UK business visitor visa, you need to show the Home Office a few general UK business visa requirements:

  • A passport or other legal travel document.
  • A current passport-sized photo that satisfies the UK visa photo requirements.
  • You plan to leave the UK as soon as your visit is over. You need to show proof of travel that includes the times you want to visit the UK.
  • You have proof that you plan to do business in the UK, like welcome letters from UK companies, information about business meetings, or registration forms for conferences.
  • Moreover, you have enough money to pay for your own food, lodging, and any other costs during your visit without using public funds.
  • You need to give information about where you will stay in the UK.
  • Additionally, you will need to show proof that you have enough money for your trip, like bank records or letters from people who are paying for your trip.
  • You must be able to pay for both your way in and out of the UK. Information about booked flights or other trips will be needed.

To give your visa application the best chance of being approved, you’ll need to show a portfolio of papers that show you are eligible and plan to travel.

To begin, you’ll need to show proof that you have a legal passport or some other form of travel ID. You need to be able to legally visit the UK, but keep in mind that any paperwork you need to show will need to be translated into English or Welsh first.

You might also need to give:

  • An immigration record and information about the places you’ve been traveling in the last ten years.
  • List of information about a foreign employer or company that you work for.
  • UK address information for your visit
  • Your present address and phone number overseas.
  • Details about how to reach you and your partner, along with their passport number and names and dates of birth, if relevant
  • Information about any crimes or immigration violations you may have made in the past.
  • Any other documents that are specific to your reason for visiting.

For a visa application to be successful, you must have a strong portfolio of supporting papers that show why your case is strong. If you’re not sure what to do or are confused, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the UK Immigration Solicitors team. How to Get a Business Visitor Visa for UK?

Make sure you can get a UK Business Visitor Visa before you apply. This visa is primarily used by people who want to visit the UK for short-term business purposes. If you meet the business visitor visa UK requirements, go to the UK government website for visa applications and make an account. Fill out the online form to apply for a visa.

You may have to provide biometric information (fingerprints and a photo) at a local visa application center. This depends on your country and where you are applying from. Check to see if this requirement fits you. Then you have to pay the visa application fee, which is different for each type of visa and where you live. Most of the time, you can pay this online as part of my application.

Some people may have to go to an interview at the visa application center in their area. If you need to go to an interview, you will be told when and where to do so. You can apply for a visa and send in the necessary papers online or at a visa application center.

Upon approval of your visa, a vignette will be added to your passport, granting you entry to the UK. Carefully read the rules that come with your ticket. During the validity period of your visa, you are authorized to travel to the UK for business purposes.

Application Fees For Business Visit Visa

There are two types of visas: short-term, single-visit visas and long-term, business visit visas. For an extra fee, you can get these for two, five, or ten-year periods. These let you come and go from the UK without having to apply for a new visa while your old one is still good. You can still only stay for up to six months at a time during each visit.

  • Short-term (up to six months) Visa: £115
  • A longer-term (up to two years) multiple-entry visa costs £400.
  • Long-term (up to five years), multiple-entry visa: £771.
  • Long-term (up to 10 years), multiple-entry visa: £963

How long does it take to get a Business Visit Visa?

For business trips to the UK, you should send in your application forms for a business visitor visa between three months and 48 hours before your trip. The latest you can apply is three months before your trip, and we always recommend applying earlier.

People with a visa from India, Pakistan, the US, the UAE, and other non-EEA countries should hear back about their application within three weeks, whether they go to a local office or apply online.

You can use priority services if you need to get to the UK quickly for something like a business meeting or job and are willing to pay extra to do so. You could pick either

  • With the Priority Service, you’ll get a response within five business days of registering. This service isn’t available in all countries, so make sure it’s available by calling the visa application center in your area. It costs £500 on top of the fees you pay to get a visa.
  • With the Super Priority Service, you’ll hear back within 24 hours of applying. There is an extra fee of £1000, but it can help you get your visa accepted faster. You should check with your country’s embassy or visa application center first, just like with the Priority Service, to make sure that this service is offered.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Most of the time, a child needs a visa in order to live in the UK. For instance, if their parent is a foreign national working or studying in the country, the child may need a Child Dependant Visa.

You can only stay in the UK for up to six months with a tourist visa, but you can get more than one.

Visitors can get long-term cards for two, five, or ten years for an extra fee. This still only lets you come once every six months, but you can do so more than once while the visa is still valid.

When you come to the UK on a business visa as an academic visitor to study, you may be able to stay for up to twelve months. You can apply for a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) if you are an academic guest from a non-EEA country like the US, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, South America, or Australia. Instead of the normal six months, this will let you stay for up to twelve months. It will still be necessary for you to show proof that you have enough money to cover your stay, and you won’t be able to get help from the government while you’re in the UK.

If an academic visitor to the UK wants to stay longer than six months, they still need to show that they are very qualified in their area. No matter if the work is paid or unpaid, you still can’t have a gainful job. You will have to show proof that you are either doing your own study, helping someone else with theirs, or working as a temporary teacher in the UK for free.

As a visa holder who just got your bachelor’s or master’s degree in a business-related field like finance and accounting, economics, marketing, or analytics, you’re undoubtedly wondering what to do next. Especially if you’ve been learning in the UK on a student visa, you might want to start a new business there. Fortunately, there is a specific visa road that works for you.

There is a chance that you could get a visa that gives you one year to carry out your plan and start a new business. This is the startup visa, which took the place of the tier 1 graduate entrepreneur visa not long ago and is open to all recent college grads. You can also get an extra year on the visa if your plans work out.

There are only 2,000 spots open each year through this high-end route, so your visa application must be as strong as it can be. Unlike regular business visas, the startup visa doesn’t require an investment. There is a chance that you can stay in the UK longer if your application is approved and your new business does well. This is called a tier 1 startup visa or tier 1 innovator visa. If you get these visas, you can live and work in the UK for an extra three years, helping your business and living there.

While the standard visitor visa (business category) is one way to come to the UK, there is another way if you want to invest a lot of money in a UK company. Instead, you can apply for a Tier 1 Investor Visa, which lets you come to the UK if you put at least £2 million into businesses there. Because this is a high-value migration method, you don’t need a job offer or a sponsor. Your application for a visa will mostly depend on how well you can show proof that you can invest at least the minimum amount within three months of getting your visa.

You also won’t have to show that you can speak English. This makes the Tier 1 Investor Visa a great choice for investors, and it also gives you the chance to become a British citizen in the future. With an investment visa, you can work and do business in the UK, but you can’t build homes. While you’re in the UK, you won’t be able to invest in companies that build or handle real estate, and you also won’t be able to get public funds. This is what you need to do to get a Tier 1 Investor Visa:

  • Are at least 16 years old.
  • You want to put at least £2 million into businesses in the UK.
  • The country you are from is not in the EEA, like China, India, or the US. You need a visa to enter the UK.
  • You’ll need to show that you have enough money to spend and that it’s easy for you to send that money to the UK when you apply for an investor visa.

The standard tourist visa, also known as a business visa, lets you stay in the UK for up to three years and four months. The investor visa, on the other hand, lets you stay for a longer period of time—an extra two years. After this time, you can choose to stay in the UK forever if you make more investments.
