What is Babysitter Visa UK?

Overseas domestic workers can enter the UK on the UK babysitter visa, which is also called the Overseas Domestic Worker visa. Anyone who offers personal care to their employer or family members, such as a nanny, cleaner, chauffeur, chef, or driver, can apply for an Overseas Domestic Worker visa.

You can change employers (to another domestic worker employment in a private family) and travel freely back and forth between the UK and abroad with an Overseas Domestic Worker visa. Those with a UK nanny visa can remain in the country for a maximum of six months; however, this cannot be extended.

If a babysitter or nanny wants to stay in the UK for more than six months, they can apply for a Skilled Worker visa instead of an Overseas Domestic Worker visa. A variety of caretakers, including babysitters, childminders, mother’s helpers, and nursemaids, fall under the umbrella of the occupation code ‘6114’ (Childminders).

After the first five years of employment, the Skilled Worker visa becomes valid for an indefinite stay. However, most private households do not possess the sponsor licence that is required for a Skilled Worker visa application. It should be mentioned that once in the UK, it is not feasible to change your visa status from Overseas Domestic Worker to Skilled Worker.

What is the Validity Period of a Babysitter Visa UK?

Nanny workers with a Domestic Worker visa can only stay in the UK for six months. Employees must leave the country with their boss when their employer leaves. Another option is for the employee to leave the country after their visa expires, even if their employer remains for more than six months.

Although extensions are possible, the maximum amount of time a visitor can stay in the UK on this visa is six months. If the initial grant is for less than six months, the applicant can request an extension; otherwise, they will need to depart the UK and apply again.

This visa is only valid for a certain period of time and cannot be extended to provide permanent residency. It is possible to get Indefinite Leave to Remain if you were on this route before the regulations were changed in 2012.

But things change when a nanny applies for a Skilled Worker visa. As long as they remain employed by the same employer, babysitters can stay in the UK for up to five years on a Skilled Worker visa. They will be required to renew or amend their visa if they alter their employment status within the UK.

After 5 years, the applicant may be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain, and this visa can be extended as needed as long as the applicant meets the requirements.
