What is UK Student Visa Application?

A Student Visa is required for any student intending to attend a school in the UK. After Brexit, visa eligibility will be determined by the presence or absence of an unconditional offer from a licenced sponsor. This requirement applies to citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA) as well as non-EEA nations.

The Graduate Visa program allows students to live, work, and search for jobs in the UK for up to two years after they graduate from an authorised program. Doctoral candidates will have the option to do so for a maximum of three years.

Here you will find comprehensive information regarding the Student Visa UK Route.

Who is Eligible for Student Visa UK?

To be eligible to apply for a student visa to study in the UK, you must meet specific criteria. Here are the UK student visa requirements:

  • It is essential that you have been extended an unconditional offer of study by a recognised sponsoring institution.
  • Your sponsoring institution must have issued you a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies.
  • The point system requires a minimum score of 70.
  • To enrol in the course, you must possess the prerequisite academic credentials and have a sincere desire to attend course in the United Kingdom.
  • You will be able to support yourself and any family members or dependents who come with you in the UK.

Fulfilling the Student’s 70-Point Requirement

Despite first impressions, meeting the 70-point requirement for immigration via the points-based system is actually quite easy. You will reach the 70-point mark in the end if you fulfil the primary qualifying requirements.

Let me explain how the points work:

  • The receipt of a study acceptance confirmation is worth fifty points.
  • 10 points: Meeting the required funds
  • 10 points: Show that your English language skills are at least at the B2 level, as set by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

  • Also, full-time study that leads to a degree or higher (RQF level 6, 7, or 8)

  • Course that can be done part-time and leads to a title above the level of a bachelor’s degree (RQF level 7 or higher)
  • A well-known foundation school for doctors or dentists who have already graduated
  • According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, this is an English course at the level of B2.

How do I challenge a Student Visa Refusal?

If your application for a student visa was turned down, you should take these steps:

  • Find out why your visa was denied (this will be written in the letter of refusal).
  • Based on the details in the refusal letter, think about whether you want to ask for an administrative review or apply again.
  • If you want to ask for a review, you should check the limit for submission, which is usually 14 days for applications made in the UK or 28 days for applications made outside of the UK.
  • You can also make the changes listed in the letter of refusal and apply for the visa again.
  • If you ask for an official review, you will have to explain why you think the decision was wrong and talk about the reasons why you were turned down.
  • Follow their instructions for sending the form to the Home Office (e.g., mail, email, or in-person).
  • You should wait for a decision to be made on the administrative review.

If your Student Visa has been denied, you should consult with an immigration lawyer who specialises in this area. In addition to potentially saving you time and money, this will also reduce your chances of additional rejections.

Am I allowed to bring my dependents to the UK?

From January 2024 on, foreign students will not be able to bring family members with them to the UK unless they are:

  • A government-sponsored student begins a six-month or longer course.
  • Participating in a research-based masters course that lasts at least nine months

Bachelor’s degrees with a research component and the requirement to create original work are not eligible for postgraduate programs. This includes PhDs and other doctoral degrees.

If you are an international student who is not in either of these groups, you will not be able to bring your children with you to the UK.

All foreign students starting classes on January 1, 2024, will have to follow this rule.
