What is the UK Spouse Visa Financial Requirement Calculator?

The UK Spouse Visa Financial Requirement Calculator is an online tool that helps people apply for a UK Spouse Visa by determining if they match the financial requirements specified by the UK Home Office. This visa paves the way for non-UK nationals to join their British spouse or permanent resident partner in the UK.

The main goal of the tool is to help people who want to apply for a Spouse Visa figure out if they meet the financial requirements. The UK government has set certain income levels to make sure that the partner supporting the spouse can support them financially without using public funds.

We have created a calculator to assist you for calculating the income criteria that may apply to your individual situation. This calculator is only meant to be used as an example, and it is built on the following assumptions:

  • The normal income limit applies; there are no exemptions
  • Any children who are not British citizens are also seeking visas as dependents.
  • The value on the calculator is based on current laws at the time of publication.

Please note that this calculator is not meant to provide comprehensive financial advice but rather to provide a basic idea.

What are the Financial Requirements for the UK Spouse Visa?

Spouses, civil partners, and husbands/wives of British nationals or permanent residents can apply for entry or residency permits under the UK Spouse visa category.

You need to earn more than the Income Threshold in order to qualify for any family settlement visa (spouse, fiancée, family dependent, etc.) under the existing Immigration Rules. There are typically two methods for doing this:

  • By earning at least £29,000 per year
  • Through £88,500 in cash savings (if you only have cash savings and no income); or
  • Through a mix of wages and savings (dependent on the source of the income).

From April 11, 2024, the minimum annual income criteria for a UK Spouse or Partner visa is raised from
£18,600 to £29,000 gross.

Your joint annual gross income with your spouse must be at least £29,000 in order to qualify for a UK Spouse visa. To permanently reside in the UK within the next five years, your salary must be above this threshold.

Requirements for Cash Savings in Spouse Visa Applications

All funds must be kept in a personal bank or savings account that is jointly owned by the applicant and their partner or both of them. As long as the origin of the savings is disclosed, the funds can originate from any lawful source, including a gift from a cousin or other third party. The applicant and/or their partner must affirm that they have control over the non-borrowable funds and provide proof that they have kept them in a bank account for a minimum of six months prior to the application date.

Eligibility of Bank and Savings Accounts

The bank or savings account can be a current account, a deposit account, or an investment account. It must be offered by a financial company that is regulated by the right authority in the country where it operates. It is usually easy to distinguish between checking and deposit accounts. When it comes to the cash savings rules in paragraphs 11 and 11A(a), an investment account must also meet all the other standards for a bank or savings account.
